Nigerian Afrobeats superstar Wizkid is attracting attention following reports that his documentary, Long Live Lagos, has been submitted for consideration in the Best Music Film category at the 69th Annual Grammy Awards.
The reported submission surfaced on October 14, 2026, ahead of the ceremony scheduled for February 2027. If confirmed, the development would add another notable moment to Wizkid’s international career and highlight the growing global visibility of Nigerian music and culture.
Long Live Lagos explores Wizkid’s connection to Lagos, the Nigerian megacity that has played a significant role in shaping his musical identity and rise to international prominence. The documentary also focuses on the relationship between the singer, his hometown and the cultural influence of Lagos on his journey to global success.
Wizkid, whose real name is Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun, is one of Afrobeats’ most internationally recognised artists. Through his music and collaborations with international stars, he has helped bring Nigerian sounds to audiences around the world.
A potential Grammy recognition for Long Live Lagos would also draw attention to the stories behind African music, including the cities, communities and experiences that shape its artists.
However, a submission for Grammy consideration does not automatically mean a nomination. The documentary would need to progress through the Recording Academy’s official selection process before it could be named among the final nominees.
Further confirmation from the Recording Academy or the documentary’s representatives would clarify its status in the 2027 Grammy Awards race.
